Residential Care Visitation Suspension Arrangements due to COVID-19
25th March 2020
Dear Residents/ Families and Visitors,
Effective as of Friday 27th March 2020
As you will no doubt be aware there is currently no vaccination to prevent COVID-19; avoidance of exposure is the single most important measure for preventing COVID-19 in residential aged care facilities. The Commonwealth Department of Health has advised operators of residential aged care facilities that they must have, and be vigilant in, implementing measures to prevent the introduction of COVID-19 into their facilities.
We are finding the foot traffic coming into our facilities concerning and with each day we become more concerned for our residents. Should a COVID-19 outbreak occur at Menora Gardens or Meadow Springs Aged Care Facilities our residents may not have the strength to recover therefore the following arrangements will apply.
- From Friday 27th March, Menora Gardens and Howes Centre residential aged care facility will be LOCKED DOWN and closed to all visitors.
- Meadow Springs residential aged care facility is also LOCKED DOWN and closed to all visitors.
- Palliative Care and for some Special Needs residents’ special arrangements will need to be discussed with the relevant Facility Manager on a case by case basis.
Where possible, and within our finite resources, residents will be supported to stay connected with family and friends by phone and video calls. We suggest that families may wish to consider providing their loved ones with an iPad or iPhone to assist in this regard.
Separately, the health of staff will be closely monitored, new and returning residents will be screened before entry, signage and other forms of communication will be used to explain the steps being taken to protect the health of our residents.
Thank you for your continued co-operation and please be assured our primary concern is that of our residents, their families and staff. In this regard, we will continue to closely monitor and be guided by Government and independent advice on how to operate during this challenging period.
